Delaware County’s IT committee reported to the council May 27 on several technology and security initiatives, including evaluating cloud services, limiting user profile sizes, auditing hard-line phones and piloting artificial intelligence for meeting minutes.
The committee said it is comparing Google Cloud against Microsoft/Office 365 for cost and functionality and may move more data and services to the cloud to reduce local storage needs. As part of network management, IT will limit user profile redirects to 2 gigabytes so profiles do not overload the county’s inter‑building network connections; staff will work with users to move personal files to shared drives.
The committee also said the county has more than 400 hard-line phones and will perform a copier and phone-line audit to reduce costs; commissioners estimated potential copier savings near $70,000 a year from consolidations. The county will also continue regular security training ("know before" security modules) and work toward a domain and website transition (delawarecounty.in.gov). Finally, IT staff noted an initiative to use AI on recorded meeting transcripts later this year to help produce meeting minutes and reduce administrative burden.
No formal council vote was required; the report described committee work and next steps for budgeting and procurement.
