Jackson County accepts grader operator resignation; names interim zoning administrator

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors accepted a resignation and approved a six-month interim appointment to fill a departmental vacancy during a personnel block of its May 27 meeting.
Supervisors acknowledged receipt of a resignation from James Dunn, a motor-grader operator at the Bellevue shop, effective June 3; the board approved internal posting to fill the position. Separately, Human Resources Director Becky Chapin told the board that Zoning Administrator Lori Rolling submitted a notice of retirement; the board accepted the notice with an effective date recorded in the motion as Aug. 3, 2025.
Chapin also proposed promoting Becca Plough Howe (spelled in the motion as Becca Plophout) to serve as interim zoning administrator for six months starting July 1, 2025, at an hourly rate of $30.78. The board approved the interim appointment and amended the motion to explicitly authorize issuance of biweekly paychecks; Chapin explained the $30.78 rate was calculated as 75% of the zoning administrator’s salary prorated to a reduced-hours workweek.
On the grader operator position, county staff said they will post the vacancy internally and fast-track the hiring timeline. On the interim zoning appointment, the board recorded the compensation method and directed the auditor’s office to process the payroll authorization included in the amended motion.
