Board adopts formal process for Rock County administrator performance reviews

The Rock County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to adopt a formal process for reviewing the performance of the county administrator.

Supervisor Boswick, who co-sponsored the resolution, said the county previously had no standardized review process and that evaluations were often informal or tied to pay adjustments. "I noticed there was no formal process," Boswick said, describing the measure as guidance to help the administrator learn and work better with the board.

The resolution establishes a written process and references examples the sponsors researched from other municipalities. The policy was developed to provide consistent feedback and to set expectations; supervisors said it mirrors processes used elsewhere rather than imposing new employment conditions. The board approved the resolution by voice vote following a motion by Boswick and a second by Supervisor Tillman.

There were no substantive amendments to the policy during the meeting; sponsors said the process is intended to be constructive and to provide the administrator with clear guidance for professional development. No personnel actions were taken as part of the vote; the item establishes a recurring review procedure to be used going forward.
