Grayson County EDA accepts Baywood School property for redevelopment

The Grayson County Economic Development Authority voted to accept transfer of the Baywood School property from the Board of Supervisors to the EDA, a step the authority said will allow redevelopment planning to move forward.

EDA members said the school property was intended to be in the EDA’s ownership and that staff and an outside for‑profit development partner will pursue rehabilitation and reuse plans. A board member moved to accept the transfer, a second was recorded and the meeting recorded an "Aye" vote.

Board members said state funding will likely be required for some aspects of redevelopment and that the EDA will work with a development partner on options. The EDA did not authorize specific contracts or expenditures at the meeting; members said detailed plans and funding requests will return to the EDA for later approval.

The item followed presentations about other EDA-owned properties and development opportunities that the authority is trying to advance through grant applications and private partnerships. Staff signaled they will coordinate next steps with the EDA chair and with any prospective developers.

The transfer places title with the EDA so the authority can pursue site control for grant applications and redevelopment work, but the EDA did not pledge construction funds at this meeting.
