The Batavia Public Schools Board approved a three-year purchase of KickUp Learning and KickUp Growth modules for $28,585 to replace two existing vendor systems used for professional development and licensed-staff evaluation.
Doctor Niekirk (staff member) and staff explained the district currently uses separate tools for teacher evaluation and for managing professional-development credits; both systems presented usability issues. The KickUp package merges the PD sign-up/transcript function with an updated evaluation platform, provides an improved web interface and will allow the district to include additional staff groups under a single system.
Board member Raquel moved the purchase; Katie seconded. The motion passed on roll-call vote. Staff said the new system costs about $5,000 more than current vendor fees over the three-year term but offers improved functionality and ease of use; staff highlighted the ability for teachers to sign up for sessions the morning of an institute day and an easier workflow to maintain PD transcripts.
Why it matters: Consolidating professional development and evaluation workflows into a single, more usable system is intended to reduce administrative cleanup after staff institute days and to broaden evaluation and growth tools to more employees.
