The Lennox Unified School District approved renewal of its PowerSchool student information system May 14 and discussed optional add-on modules intended to connect student data with budget and program outcomes.
District staff described PowerSchool as the district’s student information system for grades, demographics, testing and enrollment. Staff noted the renewal includes online enrollment functionality that will allow parents to enroll students remotely and help produce more accurate real-time counts for staffing and budget planning.
During the presentation staff also described a potential add-on (described in the meeting as an analytics/budget alignment module, referenced as an "allovue"-type product offered through PowerSchool) that connects spending to program outcomes and is used by some districts to link budget, staffing and performance indicators. Staff cautioned that such add-ons may require additional licensing fees and "in-game" purchases inside the PowerSchool environment; they recommended further exploration and a cost-benefit analysis before committing to additional modules.
The purchase and renewal of the base PowerSchool services were approved by board vote. The board directed staff to research how many optional PowerSchool modules would be needed, the likely cost of add-ons and the expected return on investment for decisions that would link district spending to LCAP and program outcomes.
