Public works reports successful e-waste event; staff cancels grapple-bucket purchase and updates snow program

Kyla, representing public works staff, told the committee the village’s April 26 e-waste event was “extremely successful,” filling “almost 2 semis full” during the scheduled time. She said a memo in the packet contains tonnage and weight breakdowns and that staff will evaluate whether to repeat or expand the program in 2026.

On fleet purchases, Kyla said staff decided not to proceed with a previously approved grapple bucket for the loader after reviewing current operations with the new street superintendent; the earlier rationale for the grapple was to improve brush and fallen-tree handling, but staff concluded the existing equipment met needs.

Kyla also reported reallocations in the equipment budget to support upgraded snowplow capacity and increased brine use; the village purchased a brine tank late in 2024. She said staff are updating the snow-and-ice control program (last revised in February) and plan to present recommendations to the committee in coming months.

The committee was also advised of a Dane County bridge replacement project over Door Creek that will close the county highway bridge for two to three months during construction in 2027; staff encouraged interested members to attend a county project information meeting.

No formal committee actions were taken on these operational items; they were informational updates and administrative decisions by staff.
