Page County supervisors begin process to form temporary redistricting commission

Supervisors discussed establishing a temporary County Redistricting Commission and asked party central committees to provide nominees ahead of next week's deadline to meet state timing requirements.

Kristen (staff member) summarized statutory steps and said the board must appoint the commission after party chairs nominate members: "the chair of the county central committee for the parties are the ones that will, appoint them," she said, adding that she had contacted Jennifer Harrington for the Democrats and Brian Whip for the Republicans.

Board members and staff said a five‑member commission is the likely choice. "So we'll have to have 5. It'll be 3 Republicans and 2 Democrats," Kristen said, noting that Page County is a supervisors Plan 2 jurisdiction, which elects supervisors at large who live in a district.

Kristen told the board there is a statutory timeline: once members are chosen the commission will work from the federal census data to divide the county into five equal‑population districts by Dec. 15, 2025. She emphasized the process requires public hearings and will affect precinct assignments and voter records maintained by the auditor's office.

No formal appointment vote was recorded during the meeting; staff said they expect to place a resolution on next week's agenda to complete the appointments and begin the public process.
