County extends transfer-station operator contract and seeks bids for septage land application

Kittitas County commissioners on May 6 reviewed two solid-waste items: a request to publish a call for bids for septage land application at the Ryegrass facility and a formal amendment to extend Waste Management’s transfer-station operations contract.
Patty Stacy, facilities and waste operations director, said the amendment will extend Waste Management’s contract through the end of 2027 and align annual rate increases with the City of Ellensburg to avoid staggered rate hikes for city customers. The board was asked to approve publishing a call for bids for land application of septage at the Ryegrass facility.
Stacy noted that the amendment aligns county and city rate adjustments so customers do not see separate increases a few months apart. Commissioners had no questions and the items were presented as part of the consent/operations agenda.
Staff will proceed with the public bid process for septage land application and finalize the Waste Management amendment per the presented terms.
