Supervisors approve shared disability services coordinator with Clinton County; routine administrative business passes

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved an inter-county agreement to share a mental health/disability services coordinator with Clinton County and completed several routine administrative approvals.
Lenea Birkin, Jackson County disability services coordinator, presented a proposed agreement to share the mental health coordinator position. Birkin said changes in state funding mean the state will no longer reimburse the county for the coordinator role; sharing the position with Clinton County spreads costs and preserves services for vulnerable residents. The board recorded that Clinton County had already approved the same agreement. The supervisors voted to approve the agreement.
The board also approved the minutes for April 29, 2025; authorized issuance of warrants and payment of a claims listing in the amount of $375,310.68; accepted the county recorder—ees report for April 2025 showing $53,847.24 collected; and renewed a Special Class C retail alcohol license with outdoor service for the Zwingle Recreation Association (effective 05/03/2025 through 05/02/2026). In addition, the board set a public hearing on a budget amendment for May 27, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
Supervisors described the coordinator agreement as a cost-saving measure to maintain services for residents with disabilities after state reimbursement changes. Birkin affirmed the agreement had been reviewed by county attorneys. A supervisor moved and the board approved the agreement and the administrative items by voice vote.
