Council approves parking changes, zoning variations and EV charging text amendment

Alderman Tarina read the committee’s recommendations, which included establishing no-parking anytime zones on the south side of Broadway from 13th Street to 15th Street and on the north side of Broadway from 11th Street to 160 feet east of 13th Street, among other parking adjustments. The committee also recommended that traffic on Oak Lawn Avenue and Princeton Avenue be required to yield prior to entering the intersection with North Rockford Avenue.
The committee reported several zoning board and Liquor and Tobacco Advisory Board decisions that the council sustained. These included a modification of an existing liquor license at 641 South Alpine Road to permit full liquor by the drink and extended Friday–Saturday hours to 11 p.m.; a zoning variation for a larger drive-through menu board at 1224 Bennington Road; a request to increase allowed business identification wall signs at 3155 McFarland Road; and approval of a special use permit and variations for outdoor storage and a gravel lot at 2612 Pamela Avenue and 2760–2020 Second Street. The committee also recommended a text amendment to Article 50-003 (off-street parking ratios) and Article 91-002 (accessory uses) to allow EV charging stations as an accessory use and to count EVCS-designated spaces toward minimum off-street parking requirements.
Council votes: The roll-call summary in the record shows items 1 through 6 passed unanimously among those present; item 7 (the drive-through menu board variation) passed 10–1; item 9 passed 10–1; and the EVCS text amendment passed unanimously. The single “No” votes on items 7 and 9 were recorded as cast by Alderman Bonnie.
