George Boussay offered the amendment: “Whereas support of the Knowles Nelson stewardship program is consistent with the Ashland County comprehensive plan,” and members accepted the change.
Mary Jo Gingress summarized the program’s purpose: Knowles‑Nelson has funded preservation of wild and natural lands since the late 1980s. The committee discussed forwarding the county’s support to the legislature and the governor’s office and noted that Ashland County has historically not used the program funds but that supporting the program aligns with county conservation goals.
The motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded; members voted by voice and directed staff to forward the resolution and committee comments to the county board’s planning committee.
