Board sets May 20 public hearing in Harris on reclassification report

The Osceola County Board of Supervisors gave tentative approval to a reclassification report and set a public hearing for May 20 at 1 p.m. at the Harris Community Building.

Board member Schulte moved to give tentative approval to the reclassification report and to identify the time, date and location for the public hearing as Harris Community Building on May 20 at 1 p.m.; Harrison supported the motion and the board voted aye.

The hearing is intended to allow affected landowners and residents to comment on the proposed reclassification before staff applies the range assessments to the 2025 rolls. County staff said they will prepare and mail notices to landowners and publish a legal notice in the newspaper. Staff described the usual timing requirement: publication and mailings must be completed at least 20 days before the hearing, so notices need to be filed by the end of the month.

Board members also asked staff to specify the community center in the notice; staff said it will produce hard copies of the report (one per county unless otherwise requested) and will e-mail digital files, including the Excel spreadsheet used for the assessment.

The board’s action was tentative approval of the reclassification report and identification of Harris Community Building as the site for the public hearing on May 20 at 1 p.m. The next steps are publication, mailing of notices by each county to affected landowners, and a follow-up substantial record for the May 20 hearing.
