Codington County authorizes notice to bidders for County Road 20 paving project

The Codington County Commission on April 15 authorized staff to send a notice to bidders for the County Road 20 paving project, the second stage of work to blacktop a segment that was reconstructed and widened last year.
Randy, representing the county highway department, told the commission the work would follow last year’s reconstruction and that staff hoped to complete the paving by fall. A commissioner asked whether the project covers a roughly two‑mile stretch "from 81 over to 11;" highway staff confirmed the segment and described it as a continuation of prior reconstruction.
Randy also presented the department's monthly report: crews were out four consecutive days during the most recent snowstorm and focused afterward on crack repair, ditch and right‑of‑way work on County Road 11‑2 and County Road 7‑2, and pre‑construction coordination with the South Dakota Department of Transportation on a State Highway 25 project that will use County Road 27 as a detour. Randy said the DOT inspected the road and agreed to repair any damage once the state project concludes; he expects that state work to finish in late fall.
Motion to authorize the notice to bidders was made by Commissioner Johnson and seconded by Commissioner Gable. The motion passed by voice vote.
