Summary
Mayor Brenda Gunter issued a proclamation recognizing Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week (April 13–19, 2025), the council applauded Charlotte Anderson of Keep San Angelo Beautiful for five years of service, and staff said a proclamation recognizing telecommunicators will be prepared for the next meeting.
The San Angelo City Council issued several recognitions during the meeting: a proclamation designating April 13–19, 2025, as Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week; formal thanks to Charlotte Anderson for her work as executive director of Keep San Angelo Beautiful; and a plan to present a proclamation honoring public-safety telecommunicators at the next council meeting.
Mayor Brenda Gunter read the animal-care proclamation, noting the role of animal control personnel in enforcing laws, rescuing animals and protecting public health. Morgan Chegwydin, interim director of Neighborhood and Family Services, accepted the recognition on behalf of animal-services staff and urged residents to recognize the team that “shows up every day to serve San Angelo and serve its families and animals.” Interim assistant director Angela Bloss also thanked the council for spotlighting staff who could not attend because they were serving the public.
The council also recognized Charlotte Anderson for her five years as executive director of Keep San Angelo Beautiful and cited the organization’s partnerships with TxDOT, Republic Services, San Angelo ISD and Angelo State University. Anderson said she appreciated the chance to build a foundation and thanked volunteers for their work "in making San Angelo the most beautiful place to live, work, and play."
Separately, Sergeant John Blaney of Public Safety Communications requested recognition for National Telecommunicators Week, which occurs every April. Blaney said he had not arranged a proclamation this week and asked that the city prepare one for the next council meeting; the mayor and council agreed to do so.
Why it matters: The proclamations publicly acknowledge city employees and volunteer leaders whose work supports public safety, sanitation and community beautification. The telecommunicators recognition will allow the city to formally honor dispatchers in an upcoming session.
No formal policy or budget actions resulted from these recognitions during the meeting.
