Public Service committee approves continued Raftelus support for AMI customer information system

The Public Service Committee approved an ordinance authorizing the director of public service to contract with Raftelus Financial Consultants Inc. for implementation support of a customer information system tied to the city’s AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) metering project.

Chris Lotto said Raftelus has supported the city through the AMI metering rollout and will now help develop and implement the customer‑information portion of the project. Lotto said the work is covered by the original project loan and is not additional water‑fund spending. He told the committee there are about 85,000 meters in the system and roughly 5,000 to 7,000 meters remain to be installed; staff expect installation to wrap in about 60 days and to implement the customer information technology in late fall to year‑end.

The committee approved the item on consent after a motion and second and a voice vote in favor. Lotto said staff will return with a presentation as implementation nears and offered to brief ward meetings about bill-format changes customers can expect.
