Council reviews water infrastructure work: generator site prep, hydrant repairs and maintenance program proposal

Council members received updates on water-system projects, including an emergency generator site, hydrant and valve maintenance, and a private contractor’s maintenance-program proposal.

Staff reported the generator supplier has ordered equipment and is ready to pour the concrete slab; site-manager meetings were scheduled to finalize placement and gas-line routing. Officials discussed options for siting the generator inside or just outside an existing fenced lift-station area and considered a small security enclosure if space is limited. The council asked the site manager to confirm slab, anchoring and access needs before installation.

Public-works staff reported that the monthly water test has been completed and that a broken valve at the greenhouse had been repaired. The council also discussed a fire hydrant that would not shut off; a contractor said many town hydrants are more than 40 years old and recommended either rebuilding certain models or replacing assemblies. A contractor, Chris of Gregor Construction, described a maintenance program to map valves, exercise them and identify nonworking valves; he said crews had already located several valves unrecorded on town maps.

Council directed staff to continue coordination with the generator vendor, to pursue hydrant repair or rebuild options and to consider the proposed maintenance program for budgeting and scheduling. No major purchases were approved at the meeting beyond continuing site work and repairs already in process.
