PowerSchool rollout credited with improving attendance and parent communications; district plans tutorials

The Normandy Schools Collaborative told the board that its new PowerSchool student information system has improved attendance tracking and parent communications since its July 2024 launch.
Michelle Gaskin, the district’s PowerSchool coordinator, said the system sends prompt attendance notifications to parents, supports real-time uploads of disciplinary actions and allows staff to consolidate academic, health and attendance records. "PowerSchool allows personnel to upload documents and assign disciplinary actions immediately," she said.
Nut graf: District leaders linked faster attendance alerts and cleaner data to improved reporting and family outreach, and announced plans to increase parent sign-ups with onsite help and an instructional video.
Gaskin said staff will demonstrate portal enrollment at upcoming parent-teacher conferences and produce a step-by-step video to be posted on the district website. Board members asked about parent adoption rates; Gaskin said current utilization is low but that the district will run sign-up stations at conferences and provide one-on-one assistance in the central office.
