Apache Junction introduces new economic development director, outlines early priorities

The Apache Junction City Council on Feb. 18 heard an introduction from the city's new economic development director, Ryan Kopp.
Kopp said he joins Apache Junction after an 11-year career with the City of Chandler and that he graduated from Arizona State University. "I'm really excited to be here. There's a lot of opportunities ahead in Apache Junction," he told the council.
Kopp described a short-term plan to "dig into the fundamentals" by learning the community, infrastructure and local property owners over the next few months, then to spend the remainder of the year meeting brokers, developers and decision-makers across the region to market Apache Junction and seek prospects for the downtown site owned by the city. He listed six focus areas for his team including business attraction, business retention, downtown tourism, marketing and research.
Kopp said the downtown site owned by the city is important and promised to increase outreach to quality developers and brokers; he emphasized the need to be selective to obtain stronger long-term projects.
City Manager Bridal Powell introduced Kopp and invited him to present to the council and public. Council members welcomed Kopp and encouraged engagement with local businesses and property owners. The item was informational; no council action was required.
