Council adopts updated comprehensive plan vision statement, removes 'in 2046' phrasing

Sedro-Woolley’s City Council on March 12 adopted Resolution 116,025 to update the city’s comprehensive plan vision statement, approving a revised text the planning commission and staff had drafted after public outreach and internal review.

City planner Nicole McGowan and staff summarized a planning commission exercise that distilled public comments, open-house input and written survey responses into the draft before council. Councilmembers said they appreciated the commission’s deliberations and the incorporation of suggestions, including language submitted by a councilmember.

Several councilmembers objected to the phrase “in 2046,” saying it read awkwardly in the statement. Councilman Henderson moved to approve the vision statement with removal of the phrase; another councilmember seconded. The motion carried with one recorded opposition from Councilwoman Kesty.

Council members said the updated language better reflected community input and the commission’s work; staff said the revision completes the vision statement phase of the 2025 comprehensive plan update.

The council then recessed to an executive session to consult legal counsel on litigation matters under state law.
