Senator Gorsek previews broad transportation legislative proposal, emphasizes multi‑modal approach and accountability

Senator Gorsek told the Senate she will soon introduce a legislative concept (LC) on transportation that will take a broad approach to the state’s mobility needs.
“We’re back on the road again,” Gorsek said, describing the forthcoming proposal as one that will include roads and highways as well as freight and passenger rail, transit, walking and bicycling. She said the LC will also include measures to improve accountability at the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Gorsek asked colleagues and stakeholders to stay tuned and to contact her or joint‑transportation co‑chair Senator Susan McLean with questions or suggestions. She said the work will require participation from both chambers and the governor to succeed. As part of the floor remarks she noted an estimate that roughly 30% of Oregon residents do not drive and said that transportation planning must account for people who rely on other modes to reach work, medical appointments and stores.
