Commissioners approve large-scale future land-use amendment for Mowery Properties

The Hendry County Board of County Commissioners voted March 11 to approve CPA 2023, a large-scale future land-use map amendment for a property identified in staff materials as "Mowery Properties." The amendment changes the site’s designation from agriculture to multi-use.
Ryan Alexander, Director of Planning and Community Development, told the board the application covers a "2 82 acre site" located along US 27 and bordering Glades County, and that the change would bring the parcel in line with adjacent properties already designated multi-use. Alexander said the Local Planning Agency recommended approval unanimously and there had been no public calls about the application.
Commissioners moved and seconded the approval and completed an individual roll-call vote; the motion passed.
Alexander explained that the future-land-use amendment is the first of three steps toward development: the comprehensive-plan amendment, then rezoning to a Planned Unit Development (PUD), then development orders and construction plans. No specific development order or construction timeline was approved at the meeting.
