Senator Tammy Nichols presented RS 32561 and asked the Senate Judiciary & Rules Committee to print the request so the Legislature can consider removing a section of code that established a taxing "weather modification district" in the 1970s. Nichols told the committee the provision was used in only one area historically and commissioners and the taxing commission could not identify any contemporary use or levies under that authority.
"No one really knows what it was for or what the money went to," Nichols said. She told the committee she had contacted the taxing commission, which confirmed no taxes have been levied using that section since the 1970s. Committee members voted to send RS 32561 to print with no discussion.
