Commission opens multiple construction bids; awards salvage contract after review

Fayette County commissioners opened bids for multiple county projects at the March 1 meeting and approved awarding at least one contract after staff review.

County staff opened and read bids for several construction and repair projects, including a front‑porch restoration at a memorial building, a jail demolition/reclaim project and other localized repair jobs. County staff said each bid packet required a checklist of submission items; the low bidder on one package failed to include required documents, and staff recommended awarding that package to the next compliant bidder.

For the package described in the meeting as the salvage/tear‑down work, staff reported that the lowest bidder had missing documentation and therefore was noncompliant. The county recommended awarding the contract to Empire Salvage (appears in the transcript as “Empire Salvage”/“Empire Salvers”), and the commission voted to accept that recommendation and award the work to Empire Salvage. In another bid opening, several masonry and contracting firms submitted tabulations; staff said all tabulations will be reviewed by the county’s procurement reviewer (named in the meeting) to confirm completeness and eligibility before final award.

Staff told commissioners that all bids would be further reviewed by the county’s procurement reviewer (Dan Dutton/Hooten, as referenced in the meeting) to verify insurance, bonds and other required documentation before contracts are finalized. Commissioners instructed staff to return with confirmations and recommended awards after the administrative review.
