District proposes five‑year technology plan focused on consistency, access and future‑ready learning

District technology and instructional leaders presented a five‑year technology plan intended to guide purchases and implementation from 2025 through 2030, emphasizing consistent tools and practices across the two campuses, equitable device and connectivity access, cybersecurity and instructional support.

Doctor Waterman and Ed (last name Petrovsky not to be confused with HR Ed) briefed the board on the community engagement process used to develop the plan, which included student focus groups, staff sessions, the equity ambassador group, building operations and the LTCAC. They said the central theme from the listening sessions was a need for consistency in hardware, software and classroom practice so solutions scale across the district.

The plan frames seven goals: collaboration/communication, anytime/anywhere future readiness, rethinking learning space design, community and global connections, online safety/security/responsibility, digital equitable access, and staffing/support. Doctor Waterman noted the district has moved many systems to cloud hosting, completed major Wi‑Fi and infrastructure upgrades and implemented a 1:1 student device distribution following pandemic acceleration.

Staff described an inventory and road map in the plan that identifies hardware and software renewal cycles (student Chromebooks, staff laptops, LMS, ClassLink, Infinite Campus, and cybersecurity investments) and recommended preserving a pool of loaner devices to support continuity. They also raised cybersecurity as an evolving threat and said the district is considering additional staffing or structural changes to respond.

The board asked how the listening sessions were conducted; staff described meetings with student advisory groups, equity committees, tech coaches, district administrative teams, LTCAC, and the Cyber Defense Club. The plan will be returned to the board for approval in two weeks, staff said.
