Candidate interviewed for Parks & Trails Advisory Board; commissioners tentatively supportive

At the March 3 briefing the commissioners interviewed an applicant for the Parks & Trails Advisory Board who described long-term engagement with Mason County parks, volunteer service as a park host, and prior federal contracting and facilities experience.

The applicant identified with local civic groups including the Grange and said the organization recently received a grant to repair windows and heating at the Grange hall. The candidate said they have experience in surveying, contracting, plumbing and space planning from prior military and federal-government work and described volunteer roles with the PTO and local fire-association fundraising.

Commissioners asked about conflicts of interest; the applicant disclosed prior disagreement with a parks decision (tree/ivy removal) and said that had led to a previous challenge to appointment. Commissioners raised scheduling and attendance questions and indicated they would follow up with staff; one commissioner said they were inclined to support the appointment and Mackenzie (staff) said she would notify the applicant.

Staff and commissioners agreed to finalize the appointment paperwork at the next briefing or regular meeting after procedural checks. The commissioners did not take a formal vote during the briefing.
