Kittitas County extends payment timeline for Roslyn cemetery water-main project

Kittitas County commissioners voted to approve a resolution extending the contract completion date for a cemetery water-main project in the City of Roslyn and to release remaining funds for the project.

Public Works staff told the board that the project began in 2024 after weather and time constraints prevented completion in December 2023. “If it was listed as 2024, they would be good because they completed that work in November of this last year,” the staff member said, explaining the city had asked to extend the contract’s completion date from Dec. 31, 2023, into 2024 so payment could proceed.

The county originally awarded $275,000 for the project; Public Works used roughly $8,000 for design, leaving “approximately just over $267,000 remaining,” the presenter said. The staff member told the board that funds are available in fund balance and can be released to the City of Roslyn if the board approved the resolution.

A commissioner moved to approve “a resolution authorizing agreement extension with the City of Roslyn for the cemetery water main extension project.” Another commissioner seconded the motion. After brief remarks and a suggestion that the city was seeking further funding for a second phase from Representative Ybarra, the chair called the vote and the motion passed.

The resolution extends the contract completion date to allow the county to process final payment; the county auditor’s office confirmed funds are available.

The board did not discuss changes to the scope of work or additional county funding beyond releasing the remaining awarded amount. The presenter noted the extension request is based on the timeline in the agreement and recommended approving the resolution so payment could be made.
