The Board of Supervisors approved a supplemental appropriation of $425,000 to the fiscal year 2025 Children’s Services Act (CSA) budget after staff reported that a number of children moved from part‑time to full‑time placements, increasing county costs.
County staff said the number of students served under CSA fluctuated and had recently grown to between nine and 11 students who required more intensive services. That shift, staff said, increased the county’s projected CSA expenditure by roughly $425,000 beyond amounts budgeted earlier in the fiscal year. The county advised the board that the state also provides CSA support and that the county’s total projected CSA cost after the appropriation would be reported to the board as $896,054 (county share plus state support reflected in agency accounting).
Supervisors approved a resolution (recorded in the meeting as Resolution 25‑06) appropriating the additional funds and directed staff to monitor caseload and expenditures. The board’s motion to appropriate the funds passed on roll call.
Staff said the appropriation is required by statute to ensure the county can meet obligations for court‑ordered and individualized needs for students covered by CSA and that the timing was driven by placement changes rather than by programmatic expansion.
