Codington County jail reports January commissary balances and booking statistics

County staff presented the January 2025 commissary and jail activity report: bank balances, commissary commissions, average daily population, bookings, transports and out-of-county contract revenues were reported to the board.
Codington County staff presented the jail and commissary monthly report for January 2025 at the March 3 meeting.
The commissary bank balance for January was reported as $21,386.85. Staff said $251.19 remained in the lobby ATM and booking kiosk; resident balances at the snapshot were $1,692.22. Commissary items and tax not yet dispersed were reported at $3,573.59, with a stated grand total of $16,003.72 (as shown on the county balance sheet). The county’s commission from phone and kiosk sales for January was $2,786, which was deposited to the general fund, staff said.
The sheriff’s office checking account bank balance for January was $11,516.76. Staff reported collections including $6,970.25 in copy and sheriff fees, $3,412.01 in executions, and $225 in warrant fees, yielding a reported subtotal of $10,627.26 for those line items.
Jail activity figures reported for January included a total of 522 cases and calls for service, seven accident reports completed, 59 warrants served, 276 civil papers served, 4,535 transport miles for 20 trips and 24 people transported, and 194 bookings for the month. The average daily population was 46.52, with a high of 58 on Jan. 29 and a low of 40 on Jan. 6. Staff reported 18 people on SCRAM (electronic monitoring), 11 on remote breath monitoring, 40 participating in twice-daily PBTs and 37 on twice-weekly UAs, for a combined 106 people on the 24/7 program.
The county reported out-of-county contract receipts including $11,755 for work-release fees, $1,380.24 for fees labeled as "7 fees" in the record, and $7,169 in SCRAM fees; another $3,963 was also reported under out-of-county receipts.
County staff concluded the monthly report and invited questions; none were raised during the meeting.
