Baldwin County adopts updated land-use code, keeps half-acre minimum lot size

Baldwin County commissioners voted unanimously to adopt an updated land-use code after brief presentation by the county manager.

County staff said the draft before the board reflects edits requested at a recent workshop, including changing minimum residential lot size in subdivisions from one-quarter acre back to one-half acre, removing certain invasive species from the tree ordinance and retaining provisions allowing mobile/manufactured homes. The county manager described the version on the dais as the "clean version" ready for adoption.

Commissioner Hall moved to adopt the ordinance; a second was recorded and the board approved the measure without further discussion.

The measure was adopted by a recorded voice vote and the motion carried unanimously. No amendments were offered during the public meeting. The county manager noted the ordinance had been discussed at a workshop the prior week and that the posted changes reflected that feedback.

The board did not take additional public comment on the ordinance at the time of the vote.

The adopted ordinance replaces the previously posted draft; the county manager advised staff will proceed with implementation steps under the county's standard procedures.
