Camden County expands student poll worker program; seven students trained for early voting

"She came up with the great idea that we pull the student that should probably be a part of it as our AP American Government class," a board member said, referencing Superintendent Tricoia Green and teacher Ms. Bice at the high school.
Officials described the program as an experiential résumé builder for college‑bound students. The board said students are scheduled to work up to four hours per day and may work on two days during an election cycle; those absences are excused by the school. The election supervisor said students always work alongside a trained poll worker and are not left alone.
Members discussed creating a short exit survey for student participants to better understand who signs up, what attracted them and how to improve retention; board members said many students do not check personal email frequently and that outreach likely requires texts or teacher prompts.
Ending: The office said it will continue coordinating with the school system and teacher partners to place interested students at polling locations during advance voting and election day.
