Barry County introduces new emergency manager Patrick Janssen

Patrick Janssen introduced himself to the Barry County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 11 as the county’s new emergency manager. Janssen said he began working part time last week with the county’s current emergency manager, Jim Yarger, and will take over the position at the end of the month.
Janssen told the board he brings more than 20 years of experience in fire, emergency medical services and some law enforcement, and that he has served as a backup for emergency management over the past eight years. He also said he has previously worked with United Way as the county’s veterans affairs officer.
“...I come with a little over 20 years of service in fire, EMS, and some law enforcement,” Janssen said when introducing himself. He invited commissioners and staff to reach out with questions or needs as he completes his transition.
Commissioners welcomed Janssen and expressed appreciation for his experience in both emergency services and veterans’ affairs. The board did not take formal action on the appointment during the meeting; Janssen described his current status as a transition alongside the incumbent and noted he would continue working part time with Yarger while moving into the full-time role.
