Clay County planning staff opened a public hearing to solicit final public input on an updated Land Development Code that has been under revision since April 2023.
Planning staff said a full draft of the ordinance is posted on the county website and that the Planning Commission expected to review the full draft at its March 18 meeting. If the commission recommends adoption, staff said the Clay County Board of Commissioners would likely hold at least two public hearings, probably in April.
Staff and commissioners said the update has been a multistage process that included a work group of commissioners and meetings with county staff members who have responsibilities under the ordinance. Commission members thanked staff and the work group for provided clarifications and edits to the draft.
No formal recommendation or vote on adoption of the ordinance occurred at the meeting; staff framed this session as an additional public-input opportunity and the public hearing was closed after no members of the public spoke at the floor hearing.
The schedule described by staff indicates the Planning Commission’s March meeting will be the next formal point for action; the Board of Commissioners’ public hearings and any final adoption decisions would follow that process.
A copy of the full draft is available on the Clay County planning web page, according to staff.
