Council introduces ordinance to clarify code enforcement definitions; first reading approved

The Klamath Falls City Council on Feb. 18 voted to introduce for first reading an ordinance that amends city code sections 5.6, 5.65(a) and 6.145 to clarify enforcement language and definitions.
City Attorney Michael Swanson said the changes are largely housekeeping: they clarify what counts as debris and replace the term “junked vehicle” with “inoperable vehicle” in definitions drawn from other municipal codes, and they correct subsection sequencing so different time frames in subsection C and subsection E are clear. He said section G is intended to mirror Oregon state statutes.
Swanson opened the item for public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Councilor (name not specified) moved to introduce the ordinance for first reading by title only; a second was recorded and the motion passed by voice vote.
The item will return for subsequent readings as required by the city’s ordinance process.
