Wright County commissioners on Tuesday set a public hearing for 9:30 a.m. April 1 to accept public comment on proposed body-worn camera implementation and policy for county law enforcement.
Chief (unnamed) told the board the county must schedule a public meeting for comment because the county does not currently have a body camera program. "Statute requires us to schedule a public meeting for comment and input related to body cameras since we don't have one currently," the chief said, and staff noted the earliest regular board meeting that met the notice requirement would be April 1.
Commissioner Shane moved to schedule the public hearing for 9:30 a.m. April 1 during the county board meeting; Commissioner Holland seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Staff and the chief indicated the meeting will be used to gather public input on recommended policies as part of implementation discussions with the vendor Oracle and other stakeholders. Specific policy proposals, draft rules for data retention, funding, or timelines were not presented during Tuesday’s discussion.
The board did not vote on any body-camera policy at the Feb. 18 meeting; the action was limited to scheduling the required public hearing.
