Staff said contractors are amenable to staging the work so that not all four infields are removed at once: the plan discussed would allow at least one diamond to remain playable while crews work on two others and then rotate to finish the middle field. Parks staff also said they are meeting with Greensburg High School to use their field as a temporary option.
Funding updates included notice that E Triple S pledged $20,000 to pay for fencing for phase 1 of the project, and county staff reported ongoing discussions with the city’s TIP board and community foundations to cover backend costs for later phases. Staff also raised concerns about higher-than-expected interest rates for project financing compared with prior expectations.
Commissioners and staff discussed camper hookup demand for tournaments and the need to assess how many hookups would be needed at the fairgrounds to support visitors; staff said they would ask tournament partners for typical counts.
