CRA authorizes $50,000 pilot for enhanced code enforcement

The Mount Plymouth Sorrento Community Redevelopment Agency Board authorized up to $50,000 from the CRA trust fund on Feb. 11 to support enhanced code enforcement and corrective actions for the remainder of fiscal year 2025.
Meg Brew said the funding would allow code enforcement officers to address ongoing sources of blight within the CRA and support the community image goal of the current CRA redevelopment plan: to enhance the perception of the area as a "safe, family-oriented small town." Staff said the allocation is intended to address chronic code cases and bring longer-term solutions.
At the advisory committee’s December meeting staff first discussed using CRA funds to support enhanced code enforcement and a residential rehabilitation program; for this meeting staff focused solely on the code enforcement allocation and said a residential rehab program will be presented at a future meeting.
Glenn Guzman of the county’s code enforcement was present to answer technical questions but did not provide extended remarks in the public record. The board moved, seconded and approved the allocation; the transcript records the motion and approval though a numeric vote tally was not provided.
