Coyle council begins recodification process, plans workshop to strip inapplicable ordinances

Town Council members discussed starting a 2025 recodification of the town code using a template provided by the municipal attorney and asked to remove inapplicable items before the document becomes public.

Council members expressed concern that the attorney’s template includes provisions that do not apply to Coyle — for example, references to traffic signals and fines the town cannot enforce — and recommended striking those sections before uploading the draft online. They proposed a workshop, similar to the budget workshop format, to review and identify items to remove and then post the pared‑down draft on the town website for public comment. Because the full template runs hundreds of pages, staff suggested posting only the portions the town intends to discuss and offering a fillable form to capture resident feedback.

Council members also discussed timing: they proposed scheduling a special meeting in a few weeks to review suggested deletions and move the process forward. No ordinance language was approved at the meeting; council members directed staff to coordinate the workshop and website posting so the public can review and submit comments.
