Committee approves CAD-to-CAD interface agreement to link dispatch systems

The Kane County Judicial & Public Safety Committee on Feb. 13 approved a resolution authorizing a contract signature to create a custom CAD-to-CAD export interface with Tyler Technologies to allow electronic sharing of call-for-service records with neighboring dispatch centers.
CANCOM Director Miss Guthrie told the committee the project is funded by grants already awarded and is intended to let neighboring agencies read and continue call records without repeating initial triage questions; the county expects reduced duplication and faster transfer of calls that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
The resolution was moved by Commissioner Leonard and seconded, debated briefly about grant timing and invoicing, and the committee voted to forward the signed contract and resolution to Finance and Budget so staff can execute the agreement and submit invoices to the state or seek reimbursement where required.
Why it matters: the change lets CANCOM electronically transmit a call-for-service ticket to other CAD vendors and agencies (for example, Elgin and TRICOM), reducing duplicated data entry and speeding emergency response coordination across municipal boundaries.
Details: Guthrie said both grants for the CAD-to-CAD work have been awarded and the county expects to either invoice the state directly for the custom interface or pay up-front and be reimbursed depending on vendor and state timing. The project complements a separate effort to integrate emergency medical dispatch protocols into CANCOM’s computer-aided dispatch system, also funded largely through grants.
What’s next: the committee approved the resolution and forwarded it to Finance and Budget for completion of signatures and contract processing; CANCOM staff will then proceed with contract execution and implementation planning.
