Larimer County reports progress on AI policy, grant coordination and facilities master plan

Josh Fudge summarized several county‑operations initiatives during the Jan. 27 work session, including a draft artificial‑intelligence policy, steps to centralize grant coordination, and progress on the Facilities Master Plan.

Fudge said a county policy governing the use of artificial intelligence is in the adoption process; guidelines for county staff have already been created and training is planned. The draft policy incorporated feedback from the county’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion board, he said.

On grant coordination, staff described a plan to revive a county steering committee for grants and to use a consultant’s draft resource roadmap to inform department outreach. Alex Jordan (office point person) will convene monthly meetings with the consultant and interested departments to increase awareness of funding opportunities and reduce duplication.

Staff also reported two security policies moving through adoption (roles/responsibilities and after‑hours building use) and that the Facilities Master Plan update is nearing completion; departments are preparing performance‑measure templates to fold community indicators into the budget process. No formal policy votes occurred at the meeting.

Commissioners thanked staff and noted these cross‑cutting initiatives will affect budgeting, training and departmental workflows; staff will return with more details at future sessions.
