Senators review SB 1047 technical fixes to public safety reporting system

The bill would give OCA discretion to modify the public safety report system to accommodate technological advances and to include additional data—such as warrants, active protective orders, and criminal‑history details—from DPS and other agencies as feasible.
Representatives from DPS and OCA testified on existing interfaces and gaps. Luce Dove from DPS said the agency currently provides TCIC data to PSRS but does not hold archival protective‑order data or supervision records housed by TJJD or local probation offices; DPS said it is willing to develop interfaces but would need funding and contract adjustments tied to an ongoing modernization effort. OCA's administrative director reported system usage numbers (see SB 9 article for details) and said OCA will work with stakeholders to implement needed improvements.
Huffman asked the committee to leave SB 1047 pending as a vehicle if other technical fixes are needed at the end of the hearing.
