County IT Seeks Additional Axon Licenses to Support Public Defense Work

Sherry Ilg, Thurston County IT director, asked commissioners to approve an amendment to the existing Axon Justice Premier contract to add 13 additional licenses for public defense use for the remainder of the 10-year contract.
Ilg said the total additional cost over the 10-year period is $184,000, which she said will increase public-defense rates by less than $20,000 per year. A colleague explained the additional licenses were needed for contract attorneys and to fill a shortfall identified when the original license request was submitted. “When we initially submitted our bid for licenses, we were short licenses, and this makes up that gap,” a staff member said.
Commissioners asked why 13 licenses were needed; staff said the county added positions and contract-attorney needs changed since the original procurement. Staff requested the board place the contract amendment on the consent agenda for formal approval at the regular meeting; no formal vote was recorded during the Feb. 11 agenda-setting session.
