Board debates process for correcting minutes after reporting errors

Board members spent significant time Feb. 3 discussing repeated inaccuracies in posted meeting minutes and asked the superintendent and staff to develop a protocol to ensure corrections made during board review are reflected in published records.

A board member said corrections discussed during meetings are not consistently applied to online minutes and pointed to an Enterprise Journal report that contained inaccurate information the board later corrected. "We just need to make sure that when we go over the minutes that it is being corrected on the back end," the board member said.

The board asked the superintendent to work with staff to create a procedure so suggested corrections are applied to the archived minutes and the packet that members receive before the next meeting. The superintendent and staff acknowledged the concern and said they would coordinate with the clerk and legal counsel to propose a fix.
