Local project status: Oaks Drive trail completed; multiple DOT construction updates reported

Several agencies reported project updates at the Feb. 6 Technical Advisory Committee meeting, including a finished local trail, upcoming sidewalk work, transit facility milestones, and multiple NMDOT construction schedules affecting travel in the area.
Doña Ana County Community Development reported that the Oaks Drive multi‑use trail phase 2 construction is complete and the project was closed out after final inspection. Daniel Sembrano (Doña Ana County) said sidewalks in the Doña Ana village will begin within the next two weeks and that county crews are chip‑sealing and striping roads where weather permits.
Mike Bartholomew (Roadrunner Transit) said the agency’s new operations facility is nearing substantial completion in February with a planned move in March and a hoped‑for ribbon cutting in March. Bartholomew also said delivery of a second order of electric buses has been delayed and could arrive later in 2025.
NMDOT staff gave construction updates: the I‑10 roadway rehabilitation project between mile markers 146–164 (Las Cruces–Anthony) is in suspension and expected to resume in spring 2025; work at I‑10 mile post 141 (University Avenue interchange) has lanes shifted, reduced speeds to 45 mph, and ramp closures for bridge construction; US‑70 rehabilitation and North Main improvements between Solano Drive and Elk Drive are ongoing with traffic shifted to new eastbound lanes and a 35 mph construction zone; the Alameda Arroyo Trail crossing remains closed; University Avenue (NM‑101) in Mesilla will have a concrete box culvert removal requiring detours; and NM‑28 will have manhole and valve‑cover repairs with occasional shoulder and side‑street closures.
MDOT noted access to businesses will be maintained during US‑70 construction and directed drivers to project web information for details. Committee members asked about estimated completion dates; staff said US‑70 North Main work is expected to finish in spring (June) 2025.
