Library board: new library scheduled spring 2026; application posting confusing for vacancy

“Timeline is spring of 2026, so not too far in the future. They’re figuring it’s gonna take 15 to 18 months to complete it,” Shipman said, reporting on the library-board meeting.
Shipman also said the library served about 270 customers during a recent storm by providing power, internet access and a warm place to stay. The board highlighted outreach and volunteer fundraising to furnish the children's section of the new building; the Friends of the Library want help planning a low-overhead fundraiser to buy furnishings.
Shipman raised a website usability issue: the city’s boards-and-commissions page links to the library-board application but does not clearly state a current vacancy. She asked city staff to correct the posting so prospective applicants know a seat is open.
The report included reminders about upcoming school district events and elections; Shipman encouraged residents to vote and noted a school question Q&A happening the next day.
No formal action was taken during the council meeting on the library report; staff agreed to follow up on the website posting and fundraising support.
