The Hocking County Board of Commissioners conducted a series of routine but formal actions during the Jan. 23 meeting. Most motions were approved by voice vote (“All in favor? Aye.”) or by unanimous consent. Key items approved or certified include:
- Additional appropriation — Recorder: Approved an additional appropriation from the general fund into the recorder’s contract services account for $33,000 (voice vote). This action is described in the separate article on HB 94 compliance.
- Vendor access — Recorder: Approved 24-hour courthouse access for vendor personnel to perform imaging work for the recorder’s office, pending sheriff approval and vendor background checks (voice vote).
- Letter to ODRC: Approved sending a request to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for $6,755,413 to complete the Hocking Correctional Facility project (see separate article).
- Additional appropriations and certificates of revenue: The board approved multiple budget actions, including but not limited to: • $2,000 to municipal court wellness and recovery fund (fund 2085) • WPCLF fund appropriations into contract services ($120,000), admin fees ($1,200) and permit fees ($2,500) • Rockbridge Sewer Fund contract services: $257,112.39 • Mahoning County Community Development Block Grant (as read): contract services $744,456.83; administration $54,375; fair housing $5,162.50 (amounts read into the record) • Recorder correction: an additional $469 to correct a budget line • Agricultural society appropriation (fund 4610): $31,240.26 • Demo and site revitalization contract services: $7,511.25 • Board of Elections carryover balance into election revenue fund: $92,025.17
- Engineer resolution: The board adopted a resolution authorizing the county engineer to proceed by force account in maintaining roads and bridges as the engineer deems appropriate, in compliance with Section 5543.19 of the Ohio Revised Code (motion approved by voice vote).
- Appointments and approvals: • Reappointed two trustees to Hocking Valley Community Hospital board for six-year terms beginning March 1, 2025 (motion approved). • Accepted November and December dog warden reports and associated statistics (motions approved). • Approved multiple right-of-way and underground-construction permits including Frontier North and South Central Power pole replacements and fiber/service drop work (motions approved). • Authorized maintenance department to spend up to $1,500 for improvements to the dog pound at the fairgrounds (motion approved). • Authorized scheduling of interviews for sewer and EMS director openings and directed staff to proceed with candidate scheduling (motion approved). • Approved county staff travel and vehicle use for grant training attendance (motion approved).
All motions were carried and recorded as voice votes unless noted otherwise. The meeting adjourned following public comment.
