Kitsap County commissioners approve four community appointments

Commissioner Root moved to appoint Chuck Williams and reappoint Susan Shaw to the Manchester Community Advisory Council for three-year terms ending March 1, 2028. Root told the board the council “provides a discussion forum for community interest and issues” in Manchester and noted that Williams is president of Friends of the Manchester Library and a licensed structural engineer. The board’s resolution said the Friends of Manchester Library helped secure a grant for a permanent building that led to the library expansion in 2022.
Susan Shaw, reappointed to a three-year term, addressed the board briefly after the vote and thanked Commissioner Root: "I just wanted to thank, commissioner Root for being in the short short amount of time he's been a commissioner, being as incredibly caring and involved as as he has been just in these these few weeks." The resolution carried by voice vote.
The board next appointed Ian Harkins to the Bremerton-Kitsap Public Access Television (BCAT) Advisory Committee for a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2026. The presenter said Harkins is the government affairs director of the Kitsap Building Association, regularly uses BCAT recording services, and is interested in housing, development and land-use process. Harkins was not present for the vote.
The board also appointed Lauren Height to a one-year student term on the Central Kitsap Community Council, ending June 30, 2025. The presentation to the board said Height previously served as a student representative from Central Kitsap High School, is now a student at Olympic College, and has contributed to the county’s comprehensive plan update. Height spoke briefly after the appointment: "I feel very lucky to be able to come back and participate again... I'm excited to be back and see what this next 6 months has to offer."
Finally, Commissioners approved the appointment of Mike Hoffman to the Parks Advisory Board for a three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2027. The board was told Hoffman works at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and volunteers with the Kingston Youth Sports Association; presenters said his field-use experience and youth-sports involvement would provide useful perspective for the parks board.
All four resolutions were adopted by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were announced on the record.
