Senate committee advances bill requiring insurers to offer "gold card" prior-authorization programs

The Georgia Senate Insurance and Labor Committee voted to pass Senate Bill 5, which would require health insurers that use prior authorization to implement so-called "gold card" programs and file program criteria with the Department of Insurance; the bill lists an effective date of Jan. 1, 2026, and a first filing deadline of July 1, 2026.
