Plan Commission adopts prioritization list for CDO amendments

The Monroe County Plan Commission voted 7-0 to adopt a prioritization list for amendments to the Monroe County Development Ordinance (CDO), as recommended by the Ordinance Review Committee.
Planning staff said the county adopted the CDO on Dec. 18, 2024, and that a set of 14 items was tabled for later amendment. The Ordinance Review Committee reviewed that list and provided an ordered prioritization; the commission approved that prioritization so staff can proceed through the formal text-amendment process (Ordinance Review Committee → Plan Commission → County Commissioners) in the stated order.
Commissioners discussed whether an update to the comprehensive plan should proceed now or be scheduled later. Staff noted that a comprehensive plan update is a larger, separate process that typically establishes policy principles for zoning and subdivision decisions and may be scoped and timed by staff or contracted consultants. The commission did not add the comprehensive plan update to the prioritization list at this time.
The motion to approve the prioritization list carried 7-0.
