What the commission approved (selected items from the agenda):
- Approval of minutes and routine financial items: The commission approved minutes from Dec. 17, 2024; a Dec. 30, 2024 special-call meeting; and a Jan. 9, 2025 emergency meeting, along with appropriations, expenditures, payroll and journal entries (motion passed).
- Recognition: The commission recognized Ralph Laney on his retirement after 13 years of service (motion passed).
- Resolution 2025-12: Update to the 2025 holiday schedule (approved).
- Resolution 2025-13: Change the speed limit to 25 mph on County Road 824 (approved).
- Resolution 2025-14: Change the speed limit to 35 mph on an identified county road (approved).

- Federal Transit (49 U.S.C. 5311) grant: The commission accepted a federal 5311 award authorizing operating, administrative and capital assistance for FY 2026 (capital funding to replace up to 17 ADA-compliant vehicles; no service or fare changes planned) and authorized required local match paperwork (motions passed; related agenda entries include resolutions numbered 2025-17 and 2025-18 for matching funds and filing application paperwork).
- Resolution 2025-20: Authorize filing an attorney general's opinion regarding adoption of Title 3 of the Alabama Code (approved).
- Resolution 2025-21: Authorize animal control to apply for an ORI number (approved).
- Ratifications and contracts: Ratified a purchase order for the Cullman County Detention Center ($13,480); authorized a contract for entertainment at the AG Center Jan. 31'Feb. 2, 2025; approved the fiscal-year 2024 Rebuild Alabama annual report (CRAAR) as required by the program; and approved the inmate medical insurance policy through Hunt Insurance Group LLC (premium listed on record) (motions passed).
- Road department and procurement actions: Declared surplus dump trucks for auction; extended a one-year contract for concrete pipe (bin number 1454) with Shattuck's Company Inc.; and approved release of a $72,000 letter-of-credit maintenance bond for final acceptance of Shady Road Subdivision'County Road 2119 into the maintenance system (motions passed).
- Other administrative motions: Considered termination of local emergency, approved an employment contract for the county administrator, and authorized payment for fiber setup at the Arkadelphia repeater site ($16,701) among other routine items (motions passed).
Ending: The commission set its next work session and next commission meeting for Feb. 20, 2025 (work session 4:00 p.m.; commission meeting 6:00 p.m.) and adjourned.
